Price by kind of key
| Key | Common on | Where it sits in $165–365 |
|---|---|---|
| Metal key with a chip (transponder) | Many 2000–2015 models | low end |
| Flip or remote-head key | Many models from about 2010 | middle |
| Push-to-start / proximity fob | Many models from about 2015 | top, up to about $465 |
| Year, make and model set the final number. A few European models can only be keyed by the dealer — we'll say so on the phone. |
American, Japanese and Korean cars are mostly routine for us, and plenty of European ones too; your car's year, make and model settle the question. Keyless push-start fobs and remotes get programmed right at the car, and ignitions are repaired or replaced too.
What the price includes
- The key or fob itself
- Cutting the blade, where there is one
- Programming it to your car on site
- Erasing the missing keys from the car, on models that permit it
What changes the total
- No working key left. Copying an existing key is cheaper than starting from the car's code.
- Push-to-start sits at the top of the range.
- A spare remote for a car that only came with a plain key — a common request — depends on what the car accepts.
- The dealer comparison. A dealer may need the car towed in; compare the total, towing included.
How it's done
- On the phone: VIN or year/make/model, how many keys you have, where the car is.
- The price, before we drive.
- Ownership check at the car: ID against the registration or title. A Broward thief once posed as a locksmith to get hold of key fobs (Local10) — so we check every time, and you should expect any locksmith to.
- Cut and program, usually through the diagnostic (OBD) port under the dash.
- Test the key, the remote buttons and the start, then erase the lost one.
Have ready
- The VIN (lower corner of the windshield, driver's side) or the year, make and model
- Photo ID plus the registration or title
- Any working key — even a worn one saves you money
Where we meet you
In Miramar that's usually a driveway, the lot at Memorial Hospital Miramar, Miramar Square, one of the Publix centers on Miramar Parkway (car lockout lists them), or a hotel lot. With a rental, the rental company's roadside line comes first — the key usually has to come from them.
Usually 30–60 minutes at the car.
Questions
Is it cheaper than the dealer?
Often, and there's no tow. Compare the full totals.
Will my lost key still start the car?
When we program a new set after all keys are gone, the old one is removed where the car allows.
What if the key I lost was my only one?
That's routine. We make a new key from the car's code, program it through the port under the dash, and delete the missing key from the car's memory. Bring ID that matches the registration.
Can you just make a spare while I still have one?
Yes, and it's the cheapest moment to do it — before you're down to zero.
