Rekey Your New Miramar Home
Just bought in Miramar? A move-in rekey is $234 for the first four standard locks, and any lock past those four adds $45 during that visit. Whether the home is a 1960s house east of the Turnpike or a newer build in the west, its keys have passed through more hands than you know — sellers, agents, cleaners, contractors.
- Licensed & insured
- 6-month workmanship warranty
- About 20 min to you

Why so many Miramar buyers do this
1,031 homes changed hands in Miramar in 2025: 749 single-family houses and 282 condos and townhouses (Miami REALTORS, houses; condos and townhouses). Most are houses with a front door, a side or patio door and a garage-to-house door — every one with keys you didn't hand out.
Included in $234
- Four standard locks, all on one new key
- The trip
- A test of every new key, and a check that the old ones no longer turn
- Two new keys; more copies at $5 each Extra locks on the same visit: $45 each.
Prices for other move-in jobs
| Job | Starting price | Common total |
|---|---|---|
| Worn lock replaced with a new standard one | $145 | $145–275 |
| Builder smart lock fitted or set up (labor) | $165 | $165–265 |
| Patio slider latch fixed | $99 | $99–179 |
| Mailbox lock | $89 | $89–124 |
What changes the total: more than four locks; mixed brands that need one cylinder swapped so everything shares a key; a high-security lock; a lock too worn to rekey.
Miramar move-in list
- Front, side and garage-to-house doors. On the garage door, a Florida sheriff's office suggests a sturdy deadbolt and long hinge screws (Lee County Sheriff).
- Builder smart locks — wipe codes, remove old app users, rekey the backup cylinder (smart & builder locks). Many Lennar homes also came with a MyQ-connected garage opener (Inman); remove the previous owner from that app too.
- Garage keypad and remotes — set a new code using the opener's manual. A zip tie through the emergency-release latch stops the well-known coat-hanger trick (ABC15).
- Pool gate and pool door — do they self-close and latch? (pool latches)
- Sliders — the latch, plus a second lock or an anti-lift block.
- Community gate — get your own guest access set up with the HOA, so you can let a locksmith in later.
- Condo? Many associations require a key on file (Siegfried Rivera), backed by the access right in F.S. 718.111(5); ask for one extra key for the association and we cut it at the same visit.
East or west?
East-side homes often have older or mismatched locks that are better replaced (from $145); west-side homes usually just need the rekey. More in the east-or-west guide.
What to have ready
Photo ID and your closing papers or deed. If you're not living there yet, the closing documents are enough.
Questions
Can you come on closing day?
Yes — book a time and we'll arrive right after you get the keys.
Does the builder rekey new homes?
Don't assume so. A move-in rekey costs little next to what the house did.
Is a rekey covered by my home warranty?
Sometimes. Certain plans sold with a home include a rekey or refund part of it, so look at your terms first. You'll get an invoice from us that lists each lock.
Can I do it myself?
If the locks are Kwikset SmartKey — a small slot next to the keyway gives it away — yes, with the reset tool and a key that works. Builder locks from other brands need new pins, and that's where we come in.
