What $145 includes
- A new standard knob, lever or deadbolt
- Taking the old one off
- Setting it up so the bolt slides fully home with no shoving
- Keying it to your other locks when the brands allow
What adds to the total
- High-security parts, quoted before we start.
- Doors with non-standard holes or a split frame — more common on older east-side doors.
- Impact doors, where the lock must be one the door's approval lists (impact-door locks).
- Keys past the two that come with each new lock: $5 each.
Hardware we fit
Our everyday brands are Schlage and Kwikset, with Grade 1 or Grade 2 deadbolts; Medeco or Mul-T-Lock cylinders, for higher security, get their own quote. Finish choices: satin nickel, matte black, or 626 coastal stainless when a door faces sun and rain. New locks keep the maker's warranty, and our fitting is covered for six months.
Typical Miramar lock changes
- Older homes east of the Turnpike with worn, sticking or mismatched deadbolts. That half of the city has been largely built out since the mid-1960s (City of Miramar) — see Historic Miramar.
- The garage-to-house door. A Florida sheriff's office suggests a Grade 1 single-cylinder deadbolt on it, a sturdy strike plate and 2½-inch screws in the hinges (Lee County Sheriff).
- Storm-season upgrades. Broward's hurricane guide wants exterior doors hung on three or more hinges, with a deadbolt whose bolt reaches out one inch or more (Broward County).
- Upgrades to high-security cylinders or keypad deadbolts.
How we change a lock
- Text two photos — the lock face and the door's edge — and we confirm size and price.
- We check the door closes square — a new lock on a sagging door fails fast.
- The old lock comes off, the new one goes on, and the strike is moved until the bolt sits fully in it.
- Every key tried from both sides; old hardware left with you or taken away, your choice.
What we ask for
ID showing this address, or a deed or lease. Renters: your landlord's OK, and a key for the landlord if your lease asks for one. Condo owners: many associations require a key on file (Siegfried Rivera).
Questions
Can I supply my own lock?
Yes; fitting only starts at $99. Text a photo of the box first so we know it fits your door.
Thumb-turn or double-cylinder deadbolt?
For exit doors we fit thumb-turn deadbolts: Florida's residential code is based on the IRC, which wants exit doors openable from inside without a key (I Dig Hardware).
Does my HOA need to approve a new lock?
It depends on your community's rules; a visible handle set may need to match an approved style. A rekey never does.
Rekey or replace?
Rekey if it turns smoothly and you like it. Replace if it sticks, wobbles or you want an upgrade.
