Rekey Locks in Miramar, FL
A Miramar rekey is $99 for lock number one, trip built in, then $45 per extra lock during that visit, so a typical four-lock house totals $234. New pins go into your existing cylinders, new keys are cut, and every old key stops turning.

Who rekeys in Miramar
- Buyers. 1,031 homes sold in Miramar in 2025, 749 of them single-family houses (Miami REALTORS) — many with three or four exterior doors. See new homeowners.
- Owners of new construction, where trades and builder staff handled keys during the build.
- Landlords between tenants. Florida law forbids changing locks to keep a tenant out (F.S. 83.67), so we rekey at turnover, not mid-dispute.
- Anyone who lost a key ring or gave out spares they can't get back.
Prices by lock type
| Lock | Starting price | Common total |
|---|---|---|
| First standard knob, lever or deadbolt (trip included) | $99 | — |
| Each further standard lock, same visit | $45 | $45–60 |
| Four standard locks on one key | $234 | — |
| Backup key cylinder on a smart lock | counted like any other lock | — |
| High-security or restricted cylinder | price on the phone | — |
| Extra key beyond the two included | $5 | — |
Every rekey comes with two new keys; any further copy is $5, cut on the spot.
What moves the total: locks of different brands that need one cylinder swapped to share a key; a stiff or damaged cylinder that needs replacing instead (from $145); high-security brands with patented keys.
How a rekey works
- You show ID with the address — an adult who lives there or owns the home.
- We take the cylinder out of the door; the lock body stays put.
- Old pins out, a new pin set in, matched to a new key.
- The cylinder goes back, and we turn the new key from inside and out.
- We try one of your old keys to show it's dead. About 10–15 minutes per lock.
Is rekeying enough?
West of the Turnpike, most locks are from the 1990s or later and rekey well. East, older or mismatched locks are more often worth replacing (from $145). The east-or-west guide has the details.
What can't be rekeyed
- Locks broken inside.
- Some very cheap locks with sealed cores.
- Smart locks themselves: their codes are reset in the app. The keyed backup cylinder, though, takes new pins like a normal lock (smart locks).
One key for the whole house
Front door Schlage, garage door Kwikset? They take different key shapes. We rekey the locks that share a keyway and swap the odd one out, which usually leaves you with a single key — priced before we start.
Condos and HOAs in Miramar
Many Florida condo documents require owners to give management a key (Siegfried Rivera), and Florida's condo statute backs the association's right to enter a unit at reasonable hours for common-element repairs (F.S. 718.111(5)) — so after a condo rekey we can cut one for the office. In an HOA house, a rekey needs no approval — nothing changes on the outside.
Questions
Can I rekey it myself?
If the lock is a Kwikset SmartKey (a small slot beside the keyway), yes, with the reset tool and a working key. Other brands need new pins.
Does my home warranty pay for it?
Some plans sold with a home cover a move-in rekey or part of it — check your terms. Our invoice lists each lock.
Who has to be there?
An adult who lives there or owns the home, with ID.
Can you rekey a lock if I've lost every key to it?
Yes. A missing key only means the cylinder has to be opened or removed without it first. If you're locked out as well, the opening is priced as a house lockout, and each lock rekeyed on that visit then costs $45.
I only need a copy of a key. A kiosk is cheaper — the Walmart in 33025 has one (KeyMe).
